It was Me, Stanton, Hoodie, Kaiser Ullrich, Tyler (whose nickname will be assigned shortly), and the Wulf. 46 degrees at ride start, with little wind at inception. Plan was: 1st hour-warmup. 2nd hour-grind it 3rd hour-tempo. Section One of the plan failed epically. I think our warmup concluded at Cuernavaca, where the hammer was inadvertently thrown by either Me or Hoodie. The crew stuck together until the Dam climb. Kaiser Ullrich gets the hard man award for getting on the bike less than 8 hours after getting back from a mega ski trip. Ausgezeichnet Ullrich!
From the dam to Spicewood, we pulled some great pacelines. Hoodie, Stanton, Tyler and the Wulf did some great work. I think the starch came out of Ullrich's shirt somewhere on 620, so he gets kudos for pulling his own personal paceline for an inordinate amount of time. Wicked headwind had stoked up, making this a real grinder.
At Spicewood and 360, Stanton, Ullrich and Tyler converted to 'Adamites', and then turned right, catching a tailie home on 360. Me, Hoodie and the Wulf turned left, and did our best to spin for tempo the remainder of the ride. We even stopped and had an espresso at HQ, proving that we were working on keeping it smooth. Hoodie worked some magic on the pics below, documenting our European sidetrack.
Best Line of the Day: After getting passed by a Blue Trek on Bee Cave, knowing my greyhound instincts, Ullrich yells, "Stay on Target Red Leader!"
